I am finally ready. It took about a week, but these poor bones are now accustomed to the increased gravity of this planet. Though I must admit that I am not very happy with my current weight, I doubt I’ll be able to get back to my old weight of 30lbs. I spent the day wandering the mall filling out applications. This is indeed a queer place. I don’t think they have been in a mess hall where they permitted such filth. I was tempted to modify the “employees must wash hands sign” to read “roaches must wash hands”, but with my luck in this world the punishment would be death or something else outrageous. After finishing disturbing my applications, I decided to drop into the theater. I didn’t find the feature as scary as the poster led me to believe, however the theater itself is another matter. The entire auditiourm had a faint stench of spoiled fish. It reminded me of an absent minded moment I had years back where I fed my cat, not realizing till days later that the poor animal passed away years ago. Whatever the source of that smell is though is by no means deceased. Or if it is deceased it is definitely not resting in peace. The eerie sound of it moving through the air ducts was enough to convince me to leave before the shows end. On my way out of the mall I stopped into the book store, to pickup something to educate me as to the goings on of this place. I was shocked that the history section had nothing about Golbez and I defeating the Giant of Babil. My surprise quickly turned to sadness, as I reaffirmed my fears. Time proves the destroyer of all. There is no record of my deeds, or any of my companions. Time proves again to be the destroyer of all.
It’s gone, it is all gone. This marks the second time in my life I have been helpless while watching my home destroyed. From here, on the blue planet, the loss of my crystal place is nothing more than streaks of light across the night sky. The brilliant shine of the crystals that protected not only my palace, but once saved this world, shimmer brightly one last time and vanish forever into the darkness. Their magic was suppose to be strong enough to repel any meteorite that endangered us, how it failed is beyond my understanding.
It happened so fast. I was halfway to the whale before I could make any sense of what Golbez was saying. Once I realized the Gravity of the situation my mind was racing, trying to determine what could be saved. Looking upon the stained glass that adorned the wall of the hanger, I decided adamantly that the Library must be preserved. While Golbez frantically worked to bring the whale online I ran to the rear of the ship and moved the fat chocobo on to a wagon, than headed for the library. Golbez stopped me at the gangplank, screaming “what the hell are you doing? We need to get out of here now!” I shouted back, “The library must be saved; the history of the Lunarians must be saved!” Seeing the determination in my eyes, or perhaps just knowing my stubbornness he pushed me aside. “Fine than, I’ll go grab the damn books,” “You’re too slow to make it anyhow old man, this ship better be ready to when I am back.” With that he took off down the hallway, pulling the chocobo behind him, cursing at the chocobo for his weight.
I raced around preparing the ship for departure. As I removed the line’s restraining the ship everything went dark. Looking up at where the suns rays should have shone there was only a great black sphere whose’ edges burned ominously bright, sending flare’s of fire towards me. As I untied the last rope the ship jumped to life. The crystal that powers the whale clinked, and began to shine as the ship began to hover. Then a great shudder sent the roof collapsing down upon me. I awoke and crawled to the rail of the ship. Pulling myself up, I couldn’t believe the sight below me.
The flames from this enormous burning rock were lashing out and scarring the surface of the moon. One of the streaks of fire lashed out, toppling the western towers of the palace down upon the levels below. I gasped realizing the library lay on the western side of the palace. Straining my eyes I scoured the smoldering wreckage for any signs of movement. At what must have been the hallway to the treasury was the Fat chocobo, wedged between two collapsed pillers. 30 yards behind the massive bird, a raging fire burned, coming closer by the second. Stuck between the blaze and the bird was Golbez. I watched helplessly as he tried to climb through a small gap under one of the chocobo’s wings. I moved towards the controls to go and save my friend, and only other surviving Lunarian. Another burst of flame shook the Whale, knocking me on my back. I was paralyzed staring directly into the giant black void that would be my end. The crystal must have activated to save the whale. As I lay there staring at certain death I heard the familiar tune of the ships crystal, the transport to the planet was underway.
As I stand with others in the Bhurjerba sky gardens watching the streaks of light dance across the sky, I realize that unlike the shooting stars, I will not let the light of the Lunarians vanish forever.
Now with everything I knew gone, I must start a new life, among the residents of the blue planet. I have heard stories of other forgotten ones and will join them at the Mallboro Mall.
